Sketching, watercolor, painting, photography - they’re all just different ways of studying, exploring, and refining my craft. It’s rarely about the finished product; it’s about the process. The wandering, the making, the commitment to craft before anything else. Making things by hand is what interests me. I love the creative process in all its forms, participating, instigating, encouraging, collaborating. There are no wrong answers and no bad sketches. Just ideas finding their way onto paper as part of an ongoing exploration.

Professionally, architecture has given me countless opportunities to contribute to the communities that have shaped me. I spent a decade on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Architectural Foundation, including five years as President (2015–2017 and 2021–2022), and now serve as President Emeritus. Along the way, I also served on the Gaslamp Quarter Association Board and co-chaired the La Jolla Historical Society’s Young Architects Summer Camp, introducing middle and high school students to the wonderfully nerdy world of design.

Volunteerism is an important part of my professional life. I was fortunate to be recognized in The Daily Transcript’s 2016 40 Under 40 and received a Momentum Certificate of Recognition from the California State Assembly and Circulate San Diego in 2017. In 2024, I won the Design Professional category of Architectural Record’s Annual Napkin Sketch Contest - a nice surprise and a decent excuse to keep doodling on napkins. In 2025, alongside some incredibly talented people, I helped launch the Sacramento Architecture + Design Foundation as founding President and brought the global Pecha Kucha Night program back to Sacramento.

Most recently, I’ve been teaching Interior Design and Architecture in the Department of Design at California State University, Sacramento, sharing my love of architecture, sketchbooks, and curiosity with the next generation of designers.

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, I relocated to Southern California in 2005 before moving to Northern California with my wonderful wife, Lisa, and our dog, Solana. More often than not, I can be found with a sketchbook nearby, getting up to some form of creative mischief.
